Lea Cares has patented a bioactive material for use on hair, skin and nails - calcium silicate (BAM). The material has a strengthening effect - silicon and calcium stimulate collagen formation. Calcium silicate is a water-soluble mineral that releases silicon and calcium. By adding calcium silicate to cosmetic products, a local supply of calcium and silicon can be obtained through the skin. It is already known that silica as a dietary supplement is strengthening for hair, skin and nails. The local delivery gives a much higher and more accurate effect than, for example, systemic delivery via dietary supplements, up to hundred times more Silicate in local delivery.
Calcium silicate has also shown efficacy for antibacterial and antiviral applications and Lea Cares will develop this further in relation to the C19 pandemic.
Lea Cares are pursuing early development projects within the field of wound care. The aim is to develop novel products containing BAM – to facilitate rapid healing and less scar tissue.
